Stranded individuals

Some of these stranded persons were in transit when, despite the coronavirus pandemic, India stopped inbound flights, the Gulf News said.

Such stranded individuals found their home at the airport benches the next few days. They were moved to the Dubai International Airport Hotel on March 25 after COVID-19 tests on March 21 which was negative for everyone —. All the stranded Indians are currently lodged in the airport hotel.

Singh says it's a cruel irony that now for most of the day, sleep is what he does. "Since they put us here in the airport hotel, I have been eating and sleeping and eating and sleeping. I am comfortable but I am desperate to go home," said Singh, an IT employee at a UAE bank.

Mr. Singh, unlike the other stranded Indians, has a UAE citizenship visa but due to visa suspension, he can not leave the airport. Mr. Singh is not sure when he will be leaving for India. "I send messages to officials of the Indian consulate every few days, but I still have to hear from them," he told the Gulf News.

Deepak Gupta, who has been stranded in New Delhi since 18 March, said he's worried about his pregnant wife.

"She wants me by her side. I'm about to complete a month at the airport, and I'm beginning to lose hope," Mr. Gupta, a senior employee at an MNC in Gurugram said.
