2020 NBA Award Picks: Giannis Antetokounmpo runs away with MVP over LeBron James

Because of the coronavirus, the future of the 2019-20 NBA season is clouded with doubt, and we're not sure whether or when the basketball will resume. It is becoming increasingly unlikely that the regular season will be completed in full with commissioner Adam Silver tabling talk of a possible return until May at the earliest.

With that fact in mind, we figured it would be a good time for our CBS staff to hand out NBA awards. We have a reasonable sample size to make our choices, with most teams having played about 65 games. Once seemingly safe in the hands of Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, the MVP heated up in the months leading up to the shutdown thanks to a great stretch from Lakers star LeBron James.

Although Rookie of the Year was a landslide, there were plenty of deserving candidates in the races for Most Improved Player, Sixth Man of the Year, and Executive of the Year, and there was a two-person Defensive Player of the Year rivalry between Antetokounmpo and Anthony Davis, a different Laker.

Here are the picks from the CBS Sports NBA staff for 2019-20 MVP, Rookie of the Year, Year's Defensive Player, Sixth Man of the Year, Most Improved Player, Year's Coach, and Year's Executive. Here's how we tallied our picks: a first-place vote was awarded five points; a second-place vote was awarded three points; a third-place vote was one.
