Coronavirus in India: State-wise COVID-19 cases, deaths, testing facilities

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 614 new active cases of coronavirus. According to the Ministry of Health, India's count of active cases stood at 5,709 at 8 am on April 10. Check the Covid-19 State wise cases along with the testing facilities in the country here. Till now there are 26 government facilities and 51 private labs for testing corona.

State-wise Covid-19 Updates

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 614 new active cases of coronavirus. According to the Ministry of Health, India's count of active cases stood at 5,709 at 8 am on April 10. Also, 33 fresh cases of deaths were recorded. Complete deaths on Friday stood in 199. It cured or discharged as many as 503 patients and migrated one patient. Maharashtra leads among Indian states, with the highest number of confirmed cases at 1,364, and 97 deaths. In the state, only 125 people were cured or discharged.

The other states that have registered the most numbers of active COVID-19 cases are — Tamil Nadu and Delhi. The active case count rose to 834 in Tamil Nadu, and the death figure stood at eight. Whereas in the last 24-hours, Delhi registered 720 confirmed cases of coronavirus. And, in Delhi, 12 people succumbed to the disease caused by the virus.

The active cases of coronavirus in Kerala, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, have risen to 357, 442, and 410, respectively. In these states, the deaths were at two, seven, and four. Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh have respectively registered 463, 348, and 259 confirmed cases. 181 and 241 active cases were registered in Karnataka and Gujarat, respectively. A total of 17 deaths were recorded in Gujarat, and five deaths in Karnataka. Jammu and Kashmir, until now, have recorded 158 active cases and 4 deaths.

Covid-19 list of Punjab and West Bengal-19 positive cases crossed-100 on April 9. The northern state has reported 101 incidents, while so far, Bengal has reported 116. While 169 cases of COVID-19 were identified in Haryana. 

Bihar has 39 cases while Chandigarh has 18 cases, and Ladakh has 15 cases registered. Chhattisgarh has 10 positive patients, and Uttarakhand has so far registered 35 cases. Goa registered seven cases of coronavirus; 44 in Odisha; five in Puducherry; and 18 in Himachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Tripura each registered one COVID-19 case. The total has sprung to 29 in Assam.

Coronavirus in India

Most cases in India are people who had a history of traveling to countries infected with coronavirus or who have come into contact with a person who had recently traveled abroad. The Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) has maintained that there is still no proof of coronavirus communal transmission in India.

Analysis of India Today's first 50 cases of coronavirus in the world had shown that 39 of them had a history of travel to a world that was already grappling with coronavirus outbreak. In the country out of '50, only 11 local transmission cases were registered. These first 50 cases of COVID-19 occurred in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, J&K, and Ladakh.

Testing facilities

Initially, coronavirus research was limited to government ICMR facilities. These were 62 in number but the number of government research facilities increased to 126 during the course of March. The government has allowed private laboratories to study coronavirus in India, after much deliberation.

ICMR has approved 51 private laboratories to carry out COVID-19 tests in the country. However, the number of research facilities is still very small as compared to the country's population.
