Is COVID-19 10 times Deadlier than the Swine Flu virus?

WHO chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, had warned the governments across the world not to lose control over the lockdowns and impose strict measures to flatten the curve of COVID-19. With over 1.5 lakh people dead and more than 18 lakh people infected, WHO considered COVID-19 pandemic much more than a health crisis. COVID-19 is ten times deadlier than the Swine flu virus, which lasted from January 2009 to August 2010, killing 18,036 and infecting 6,04,446 people. The number seems to be way less than COVID-19 victims.

The WHO gave a stern warning against lifting restrictions too soon, as some of the European countries worst-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic are starting to show a drop in the number of positive cases. "The way down can be as dangerous as the way up if not managed properly," he said, stating that the WHO is working with the affected countries on planning for gradually and safely lifting the restrictions.
