Construction worker registration in Delhi

Amid the lockdown, Delhi Govt launched an online portal on Friday where construction workers can register with the government. Currently, about 40,000 construction workers are registered with the Construction Workers' Welfare Board headed by Rai. On Monday, in the midst of the prolonged lockdown, it was agreed to provide financial assistance of some 5,000 for construction workers for the second consecutive month. The Board registers approximately 40,000 construction workers.

About Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board:

The Building and other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Service Conditions) Act, 1996 (Main Act), and the B.O.C.W.Cess Act, 1996 (Cessation Act) has been enacted by India to address concerns about the safety, health, and welfare of a greater number of construction workers.

Labour Department, Government of Delhi, adopted and appropriate steps were taken to enforce the provisions of the Main Act, 1996.Govt. 'Delhi Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board' was constituted and notified by Delhi pursuant to Section 18(1) of the Main Act 1996, on 02.09.2002. Delhi Construction Worker Registration:

Delhi has a lot of unregistered construction labourers. A few are still awaiting registration renewal. Mr. Rai said the Delhi Government has launched a website http:/www.edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in/ in a bid to address this issue. Construction workers will register for a new application or renewal from Saturday.

 Workers must first register online by filling out a form. The website has many options, but the Worker would need to choose either option no 62 (renewal) or option no 63 (for new registration) for the new registration, the Minister said.

What are the details required for Construction Worker Registration?

For registration, information such as name, address, contact information, date of birth, self-declaration, address proof, bank account proof, birth certificate, and 90-day employer or union work certificate will be required. 

After this information has been submitted an OTP will be sent to the mobile number of the individual. The person will get a date to send original documents, he or she will have to visit a specified centre personally. The person will then obtain the labour-card and can use all the facilities.

The Delhi government invested about Rs 20 crore extending assistance to around 40,000 workers in March-April. A lot of construction workers are in the city, and they were unable to find work because of the lockdown. So, they had trouble running their homes. Earlier this week, Delhi govt had decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 again to the construction workers in Delhi during the lockdown. The second installation of Rs 5,000 each has been credited to their bank account since Tuesday, said Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai.
