Hydroxychloroquine for Covid-19

Hydroxychloroquine is considered useful for treating Covid-19. State Drug Controller Navneet Marwaha said that the state has enough capacity to produce the drug. Several countries have asked India to supply the said drug even as the globally reported cases of the virus from China's Wuhan last year reached 1.5 million. India cleared the first list of 13 countries for hydroxychloroquine which includes the United States, Spain, Germany, Bahrain, Brazil, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, and Bangladesh.

"There are currently 10-12 manufacturers manufacturing this drug. However, depending on orders and demands, all those who have product license will start their development," Marwaha said.

He also said chief minister Jai Ram Thakur had held a video conference with pharmaceutical representatives to know about their issues and how they can increase the production potential of these units. The Himachal Pradesh Drug Manufacturing Association seeks more government support and demands that those pharmaceutical units which meet requirements for the production of this life-saving drug be relaxed in some norms.
