Sever workers fell ill after inhaling the gas.
On Thursday, the police said that seven workers fell ill after inhaling the gas at a paper mill in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh. The incident took place on the very same day when there was a gas leak in Visakhapatnam, killing 11 people and 1000 hospitalized.
Raigarh Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh told the news agency PTI that the gas leak incident happened at Shakti Paper Mill in Tetla village, where the victims were cleaning an open tank on Wednesday evening.
Nevertheless, the factory owner did not inform the administration about the tragedy, which only came to be exposed after the hospital authorities alerted the police, he said.
The official stated that the mill had remained closed ever since the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed, and the cleaning work was underway to resume the operation. He also added that the workers were admitted to a local hospital, and later were shifted to Raipur due to their critical condition.
Mr. Singh said that a team of forensic experts were sent to the spot to investigate the exact cause of the incident and a case will be registered soon.
