How to transfer WhatsApp to a New Phone without losing chats

WhatsApp users may need to switch from one mobile device to another at one point or the other for various reasons. It typically occurs when a new product is on the market, or when a technical flaw arises with their current device. At this process, if a WhatsApp user switches devices without extreme care, they risk, among other things, permanently losing their valuable conversations, videos, pictures, and memorable voice notes.

Transferring chats via local back-up

The first thing you may need to remember is to launch WhatsApp on your old Android device from where you want your old chat history to be restored.

Menu Button > Settings > Chats > Chat backup, and finally Backup.

  • Ensure sure your new phone includes WhatsApp

  • Make sure the two phones have SD-card specifications. If they're using an external SD card, remove the card from the old Android phone and insert it into the new phone. If, on the other hand, Android phones are using an internal SD card, then the need is to move the folder or WhatsApp / SD card from the old phone to the new phone

  • Open your computer's old Android phone and find the WhatsApp or directory in which the backup files are stored. Copy the files from your computer, and pass them to your new WhatsApp Android system or databases

  • On your new Android phone, run WhatsApp. Make sure they are the same phone number. This is to ensure you have the right chat history backed up

  • A new notification shows up and then click on Restore

After you have done so, the local backup is completed, and you are sorted. Protection Status
