What is "magnifying glass" in my WhatsApp?

The new feature "magnifying glass" will allow the users the option to do a web search on the forwarded message. This will let them read content related to the message and be able to intelligently debunk a rumour or a hoax message they may have received. If a user taps the glass icon, WhatsApp will ask if you want to upload the message on the web, allowing users to search for it on Google.

WhatsApp is testing the feature for users to find more information about frequently forwarded messages. The measure comes amid the coronavirus pandemic in an effort to restrict the number of times a viral message can be forwarded. The move is primarily aimed to control the spread of misinformation.

  • WhatsApp's new feature will help you identify misinformation

  • It will display a magnifying glass icon next to frequently forwarded messages

  • Users can opt to send that message to a web search

  • Users will be empowered to find out more information around the fake messages and news

WhatsApp also restricted the number of contacts to whom a viral message can be forwarded from five earlier to just one now. If a message is forwarded more than 5 times in the app, it will be denoted by two arrows after forwarding. That limit was imposed in January 2019. Protection Status
