MHA helps Stranded Migrants to Travel by Special Trains

On Friday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) permitted movement by special trains of migrant employees, visitors, students, and other persons stranded at various places. The order came after the Center was ordered by many chief ministers to organize special trains to transfer stranded migrants to their respective destinations. Earlier, the MHA had only enabled migrants to travel by road.

Special Trains for All the Migrants

On Friday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) allowed migrant employees, tourists, students, and other persons stuck at various places to travel via special trains. The order came after several chief ministers directed the Center to schedule special trains for the movement of stranded migrants to their respective destinations. Previously, the MHA allowed only migrants to move by road.

'The movement of migrant employees, visitors, tourists, students, and others, stuck in various locations, is also facilitated by special trains to be run by the Railways Ministry (MoR),' read the order. 

'MOR will appoint nodal officers to manage their travel with State / UTS. MOR will provide specific instructions for the selling of tickets and for social distance and other protection precautions to be followed at rail stations, train platforms and on trains, it added. Passenger trains have been halted since 25 March when the national lockout to curtail the spread of coronavirus came into effect. Protection Status
