Ministry of AYUSH: Immunity boosting tips for Indians

In his speech to the nation on 14th April, PM Modi has urged the nation to continue fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. As part of his 7-point appeal to the country, he has advised all to follow the guidelines set by the AYUSH Ministry to help everyone develop their immunity and fight the pandemic.

AYUSH Guidelines


The Ministry's guidelines find their roots in Ayurvedic science, which propagates the use of nature's gifts for a healthy and happy life. Here are the main practices suggested by the AYUSH Ministry to provide for the health and well-being of all Indians.

Immunity boosting practices

  • Drink warm water daily

  • Everyday practice the meditation including Yoga and Pranayam for at least 30 minutes 

  • Make sure you add spices like Dhaniya, Haldi, Jeera, and Garlic to your cooking so that it will help you to have a strong immune system that can fight this infection

Ayurvedic based techniques

Such Ayurvedic based techniques can be followed daily, as per AYUSH Ministry's guidelines issues, to ensure your body's immunity is high enough to battle off the novel coronavirus infection.

  • Each day 1 spoonful of Chyavanprash will go a long way in building our immunity

  • At times like these, a herbal concoction of Tulsi, Dalchini, Kalimirch, Dry Ginger may be taken as the ultimate immunity booster once or twice a day. You may also add lemon juice to your drink to ensure that you still meet the essential daily Vitamin C requirement

  • Half a teaspoon of Haldi has been used as the ultimate immunity booster in a glass of warm milk for ages

  • Apply morning and evening sésame oil, coconut oil or ghee to both your nostrils

  • Take one tablespoon of sesame oil or edible coconut oil and swish 2-3 minutes into your mouth. Afterwards, clean your mouth with warm water and repeat it once or twice a day

Remedies: Dry cough and sore throat

Since the infection with COVID-19 affects the respiratory system, the Ministry has prescribed the following Ayurvedic remedies when you are getting a sore throat.

  • You should inhale steam with Mint or Ajwain water once a day

  • Mixing clove powder with honey is a natural cure for cough, and use it 2-3 times a day
