MSRTC Bus service from May 11

The state government of Maharashtra has decided to start its bus services for free from Monday onwards. The buses will help facilitate people who want to travel within the state. This is to help people in various parts of the states stranded during this lockdown to reach their hometown, said Anil Pranab, Transport Minister, on Saturday.

A statement said that the bus service will be available with certain conditions to ensure that the disease does not spread to the other parts of the state, adding that people include workers, students, and pilgrims. However, people living in the containment zones will not be availing this service, said the minister.

In case of the people stuck in cities having police commissioners, and desire to return to their home districts, by ST buses, they will have to get the permission of the nodal officer concerned for taking the journey, the statement said.

The Transport Minister stated the following:

  • People willing to travel to their homes will need to secure permission from the district collectors

  • A list of 22 such people will be submitted to the ST by the nodal officer concerned and a bus will be made accordingly

  • People who wish to travel for personal reasons can avail permission through an online portal that will be operated from Monday onwards

  • After receiving permission, the individuals can apply for traveling online with details including the permission received.

  • There will be only one passenger allowed to sit on a seat. It is mandatory for all the passengers to wear a mask and clean their hands while boarding the bus.

  • Buses will be sanitized and all the rules related to social distancing will be implemented during the journey
