PM Garib Kalyan Yojana to help poor during the lockdown

Under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, 80 crore poor people, covering two-thirds of the country’s population, will get 5 kg of rice or wheat each month. For the next three months, each household gets 1kg of dal free of charge.

On Friday, LG Advisor Umang Narula reviewed the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package in Union Territory Ladakh. The advisor issued instructions to plan the distribution in a staggered manner in coordination with the police department. Divisional Commissioner Biswas informed in Ladakh, all Antyodaya Yojana and Priority Household beneficiaries would provide additional 5kg Rice per person free of cost up to June. Additionally, one-kilogram pulses per household will also deliver every month. He instructed the Deputy Commissioners to start stocking up of the fair price shops of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs with enough food grains from the corresponding FCI stores. 

Mr. Umang stated that Direct Benefit Transfers made under the Pradhan Mantri Gharib Kalyan Yojna and instructed the District Magistrates to work out modalities for staggering of payments to the beneficiaries to ensure social distancing. He also advised banks to provide door to door payment to the beneficiaries in areas where banks are not available. He asked Director Social Welfare to ensure that the old aged, diving and widows should not suffer due to the current restrictions. Protection Status
