Accused sent to jail

An official said Kumar had posted the video on TikTok and some other sites on social media. An enthusiast of TikTok, he has been influenced by a similar video posted in Punjab. "He did all of this on social media to go viral and become popular on the video-sharing site."

Kumar told police he wanted to support daily wage labourers experiencing symptoms of withdrawal. He said a few days ago, after not having the toddy, he saw a woman falling unconscious.

Under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Telangana Excise Act, the accused were booked and brought before a magistrate who sent them to jail.

Since all liquor shops in Telangana have remained closed since the lockdown started, signs of withdrawal have emerged among some addicts. Nevertheless, the State government ruled out allowing liquor to be sold during the lockdown.
