New Payment for Youtube Users

Google-owned YouTube video site has now introduced the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) as a means of payment for its Indian subscribers. YouTube Premium and YouTube Music users will now make their payments through UPI. Premium and Music users must initially pay through their credit or debit cards. YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium customers are expected to use their UPI ID in the payment forms and complete the process to allow transfers directly from their bank account through their UPI device.

Aside from subscribing to the music channels, the UPI payment system would also enable the user to buy and rent movies and pay for apps such as SuperChat and Channel Memberships on YouTube, an IANS study states.

YouTube users will obey the specified steps to pay for YouTube Premium membership via UPI:

  • First tap on user profile

  • Tap on "Get YouTube Premium"

  • Select a plan of your choice.

  • Tap on YouTube Premium plan which will take you to the payment screen.

  • The payments of options will be credit, debit and UPI based payment.

The payment options would be dependent on cash, debit, and UPI.

  • Tap on "add bank account with BHIM UPI ID"

  • Enter your UPI ID

  • YouTube will ask for some details like your location to verify that it's you

  • Tap on Buy

A time period during which users are expected to make the payment will be established. YouTube should be tracking the UPI data until the next purchase after the payment is made. There are a number of plans available on YouTube as of now. There are Parents Subscriptions, Student Subscriptions, Prepaid and Playback Contracts.
