Shorts feature

A part of the YouTube mobile app will be the 'Shorts' feature. This will appear as a special feed that will include a list of short video clips created by content creators. YouTube also boasts the advantage of a vast collection of licenced songs and music that users can use to create content.

It is not YouTube's first effort to create new technologies to compete with rival brands. Previously, YouTube had also launched a Stories feed on their app in an attempt to compete with Instagram, allowing users to regularly post photos and content.

Chinese tech company ByteDance launched YouTube's competitor, TikTok, in 2016. In 2018, the app was made available worldwide after ByteDance bought the then-popular musical.ly and combined it with TikTok. The app has since gained huge popularity both in India and around the world.
