In his letter, Chowdhury said, "I would like to bring to your knowledge and firmly believe that you are better aware of stranded migrant laborers from different parts of the world with insufficient food, housing, clothes, health care and insecurity than I am."
He later suggested "arranging to fly these people to their homes or at the nearest point from where their respective states can ensure a safe return to their homes." "Can we use special 'COVID safety trains' in this humane operation specifically to help these poor, penniless staff get rid of their mental anguish, please?" Chowdhury said.
On March 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared a nationwide 21-day lockdown as a precautionary measure to control Covid-19 spread.
