The International Cricket Council’s official Instagram handle shared a picture of Clive Lloyd to remark his achievement on this day in 1984. ICC shared his photo and said that on this day, in 1984, Clive Lloyd became the first player from West Indies to play 100 test matches. It added, “He retired a year later with 110 Tests and 7,515 runs to his name.” Check out the post below:
Who is Clive Llyod?
Clive Lloyd is a Guyanese cricketer who played for West Indies. Lloyd played his debut international cricket for West Indies in a Test against India at Mumbai in 1966. He scored half centuries in both the innings. In 1974-75, Clive was given the captaincy of the team in the series against India. During his captaincy era, West Indies was an undefeatable team. In 2009, Lloyd was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. After his retirement, Lloyd remained heavily in cricket. He was involved in managing the West Indies during the 1990s. Apart from that, he was also associated with commentary and coaching. He was knighted in the 2020 New Year Honours for services to cricket.
