When Irfan asked Shami to pick one format, the speedster picked T20I as the exciting format while calling the game's most extended format his preferred format. For entertainment purposes, I would like to choose T20I, but I would like to play Test cricket for the strength of the game, "he said. Recalling his memories of taking the World Cup hat-trick against Afghanistan in 2019, Shami said he was only thinking about the wickets at the time.

"I was just thinking about the three stumps. I was clear that I was going to bowl over 140 km/h. My strategy was to ball yorker after taking two wickets on the consecutive ball, and Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) also suggested the same thing, I did the same thing and got the hat trick," said Shami.

"The only thing in my mind when bowling last is to execute your plans and back up your abilities. There's not so much choice as a bowler, the more you do bowling variations, the more chances are you'll concede runs," he said. He became the second Indian to take a hat-trick in the 50-over tournament after former pacer Chetan Sharma, who bagged New Zealand's hat-trick in the 1987 edition.
